Lifestyle of twin cities

Looking back 3 decades, i was born in Chennai a popular place in India. This place is well known for the rich culture of classical music, temples and conservative culture!!!! The beauty of this place is people who are here how much ever they earn there is always a touch of simplicity in their lifes.

The life is so cute there, people get up early in the morning, start watering the pavement in front of their house and do a small rangoli (out of rice flour) at 5AM. We can hear some religious songs, "Suprabathams!!, Mahishasuramardhini!! " out of small 2-in-1 players in the houses !!!!

Suddenly the city kicks in with people rushing to bus stops to go to their office, especially the mechanical industries which start as early as 7AM!!! people will Tiffins, kids on scooter / bikes occupy the street not to mention the petty discussions with auto rickshaws who keep bugging customers saying "Sir, first boni!!!! konjam pottu kudunga sarrr!!!!" (First trip in auto today pl. give some more tips :-) , itz quite funny to think about it but this normally ends in a heated fight!!!!! While the entire household ladies are busy with breakfasts etc, the grandpas are sipping for their hot coffee and totally engrossed in their "The Hindu" newspaper least bothered about anything else and they so engrossed that they seem to solve all the problems of the world themselves in a day or two!!!!!

The kids and men go off and are back in the evening tired with the heat, pollution !!!! But the beauty is the men are back mostly by 7PM, its always a 7-7 kind of office except for the new offsprings of call centres and BPOs which is creating some disturbances into the culture!!!!!

I wonder the lifestyle between Chennai and its twin Bengaluru!!!! The life in Bengaluru is a u-turn of Chennai, we can see the spending power of the youths!!! Come friday evening, the pubs, malls, restaurants, cinemas all are jampacked and these charge exorbitant amounts and the people happily swipe the plastic cards!!!!!!

Comments:
Minute observation and neatly written, especially the morning hours scene..What was interesting and pulling was the playing of the 2-in-1's, I have had experiences of these too early morning in Chennai.

What you wrote about its twin,Bengaluru and what you see is definitely an off shoot of the ITES boom ? I guess there are locations in Bengaluru such as Malleswaram and V V Puram which also replicate the Chennai scene to a close similarity.

Ranga, try to write a blog if you have time on this topic.

# The changing lifestyle and change in B'lore you see. The reasons for this, the factors for driving this and all the underlying dynamics.
